Morocco will become a major production center for the French car manufacturer Renault in the coming few years, CEO of Renault Group Carlos Ghosn said Saturday in Rabat.
Renault's two factories in Casablanca and Tangier will reach a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year, Ghosn said at World Policy Conference (WPC).
He noted that Tangier plant has already become Africa's leading production plant with 340,000 cars produced every year, adding that 60 percent of the cars are exported abroad.
The automotive sector in Morocco has a current domestic sourcing rate of more than 50 percent and employs 85,000 people.
Organized on Oct. 25-28, the WPC brings together top-level decision-makers, academics and opinion leaders from over 40 countries.
