SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Apple on Tuesday introduced iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in five colors with A15 Bionic chip, brighter Super Retina XDR display, new dual-camera system, 5G experience, IP68 rating water resistance, and longer battery life.

According to Apple, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini represent a massive leap in camera design with advancements in hardware and computational photography. The new Wide camera, with 1.7 micrometer pixels, comes with the biggest sensor ever in an iPhone dual-camera system and is capable of gathering 47 percent more light for less noise and brighter results.

Sensor-shift OIS, a technology previously introduced in iPhone 12 Pro Max, also comes to the Wide camera of both new models.

Both models offer HDR video recording with Dolby Vision, now supported for 4K up to 60 fps on all cameras.

"Both phones have beautiful designs, industry-leading performance, and advanced camera systems with impressive computational photography features, all with incredible durability, water resistance, and a big jump in battery life," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

iPhone 13 can offer up to two and a half more hours in a day than iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 mini can provide up to an hour and a half more than iPhone 12 mini, the company said.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will be available in pink, blue, midnight, starlight, and red, with pre-orders beginning Friday, Sept. 17, and availability beginning Friday, Sept. 24. The entry-level storage in both models is at 128GB, with 256GB and 512GB options.

The display of two models has rounded corners. When measured as a standard rectangle shape, the screen is 6.06 inches for iPhone 13 or 5.42 inches for iPhone 13 mini diagonally. Actual viewable area is less, the company said.
