China's consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in September, latest official data showed, slower than a 2.0 percent increase in August.
September marked the first month of slowdown in consumer inflation after three consecutive months of acceleration.
According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday, China's CPI edged up 0.1 percent on a monthly basis in September, and CPI in the January-September period grew 1.4 percent on average compared with the same period last year. Food prices, the most important factor in CPI reading, were up 2.7 percent from a year earlier in September, lower than a 3.7 percent growth rate in August.
