MACAO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The value of retail sales in Macao for the third quarter of 2019 decreased by 0.5 percent year-on-year to 18.06 billion patacas (about 2.24 billion U.S. dollars), and the sales volume dropped by 0.7 percent, the special administrative region's statistic department said here on Monday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the sale values of adults' clothing and motor vehicles recorded notable year-on-year decreases at 18.1 percent and 9.3 percent, while values of cosmetics and sanitary articles, and communication equipment rose by 15.9 percent and 12.9 percent respectively.
For the first three quarters of 2019, value of retail sales fell by 0.9 percent year-on-year to 56.42 billion patacas (about 7.00 billion U.S. dollars) and volume of sales went down by 0.9 percent.
In terms of business expectation, 47.9 percent of the retailers expected the sales volume in the fourth quarter of 2019 to stay stable year-on-year, 42.1 percent forecasted a decrease and merely 10.0 percent anticipated an increase.
Meanwhile, 75.9 percent of the retailers expected the retail prices to remain steady year-on-year in the fourth quarter, 12.5 percent predicted a decrease and 11.6 percent foresaw an increase.
As compared with the third quarter of 2019, 49.9 percent of the retailers forecasted unfavourable business prospects in the fourth quarter, 30.0 percent envisaged stable performance and 20.1 percent anticipated a favourable outlook.
