China's alcohol-making industry reports lower revenue in January-May

BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- China's major alcohol enterprises saw a total revenue of 308.9 billion yuan (about 44.2 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The figure was down 7.2 percent compared with the same period last year, the ministry said.

During the period, the profits of alcohol-makers reached 61.25 billion yuan, a drop of 7.2 percent year on year, the ministry said.

Chinese liquor-making enterprises saw their output reach 586,000 kiloliters in May, up 4.3 percent year on year.

The output of breweries went up 14.6 percent year on year, while that of winemaking companies fell 18.4 percent year on year in May.
