China's architectural, sanitary ceramics sector reports steady growth

BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's architectural and sanitary ceramics industry registered steady growth in output and earnings in the first three quarters of the year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The output of ceramic tiles stood at 7.52 billion square meters during the January-September period, up 7.7 percent from the same period a year ago, MIIT data showed.

During the same period, the output of sanitary ceramics grew 11.4 percent year on year to 160 million pieces, said the MIIT.

In the first three quarters, the architectural and sanitary ceramics industry above the designated scale raked in total revenue of 283.4 billion yuan (about 40.26 billion U.S. dollars), up 6.9 percent year on year.

The sector saw its profits rise by 21.2 percent from a year ago to 18.33 billion yuan, MIIT data showed.

The architectural and sanitary ceramics products exported during the January-August period reported an improved structure, with dropping volume yet stronger sales, according to the MIIT.
