FUZHOU, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) on Thursday started construction of the fifth nuclear power unit using Hualong One technology, a domestically developed third-generation reactor design, in the city of Zhangzhou, east China's Fujian Province.

The company said this marks the official start of the batch construction of Hualong One, a Chinese pressurized water nuclear reactor design.

Prior to the fifth power unit, CNNC's construction of four demonstration Hualong One generating units at home and abroad are progressing well, the company said.

The Zhangzhou nuclear power project is designed to be consisted of six nuclear power units, each with million-kw of power generating capacity.

Hualong One reactors were jointly designed by two nuclear power giants, China General Nuclear Power Group and CNNC, and passed inspection by a national panel in August 2014.
