U.S. dollar declines amid economic headwinds

NEW YORK, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar declined on Tuesday as weak manufacturing data pointed to downside risks for global economy.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.11 percent at 96.7318 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1290 dollars from 1.1285 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.2602 dollars from 1.2637 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar increased to 0.6987 dollar from 0.6957 dollar. The U.S. dollar bought 107.84 Japanese yen, lower than 108.46 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.9859 Swiss franc from 0.9875 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3110 Canadian dollars from 1.3140 Canadian dollars.
