Seoul shares ended sharply lower on Friday as Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU).
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) tumbled 61.47 points, or 3.09 percent, to settle at 1,925.24. Trading volume stood at 726.66 million shares worth 8.54 trillion won (7. 25 billion U.S. dollars).
The tech-savvy KOSDAQ index plunged 32.36 points, or 4.76 percent, to close at 647.16.
The market trading was halt for five minutes after issuing a sidecar alert caused by a plunge.
South Korea's currency finished at 1,179.9 won against the greenback, down 29.7 won from Thursday's close.
