Tokyo stocks open lower on ex-dividend selling

TOKYO, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors who secured the rights to fiscal 2018 second-half dividends a day earlier took to selling.

In the opening minutes after the morning bell, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 160.22 points, or 0.75 percent, from Tuesday to 21,268.17.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 17.12 points, or 1.06 percent, at 1,600.82.

Bank, wholesale trade and air transportation-oriented issues comprised early notable decliners.
