BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.39 percent to end at 2,924.86 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.34 percent higher at 9,506.56 points.
The combined turnover of stocks on the two exchanges stood at 365.8 billion yuan (about 51.7 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 373 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,097 to 321 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,654 to 422 in Shenzhen.
Stocks in the electronics industry led the gains, with shares of the lithium battery manufacturer EVE Energy Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.
Real estate shares also notched solid gains, as shares of the Shenzhen-based leading developer Gemdale Corporation hiked 5.46 percent to 12.74 yuan apiece.
Bucking the upward trend, shares of food and beverage companies spearheaded the losses, with Jiugui Liquor Co., Ltd. plunging 4.17 percent to 39.98 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.36 percent to close at 1,622.42 points.
