Tokyo stocks open lower on concerns over U.S. earnings

TOKYO, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday amid concerns over U.S. earning season, with initial reports coming in mixed, while markets await the possible easing of coronavirus-linked lockdowns in the U.S. and the gradual restarting of the economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 48.85 points, or 0.25 percent, from Tuesday to 19,589.96.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.36 points, or 0.16 percent, at 1,431.15.

Mining and marine transportation, and iron and steel issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
