Tokyo stocks advance in morning on hopes for vaccine, economic recovery

TOKYO, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Wednesday morning on hopes for the development of a COVID-19 vaccine, which saw producer and energy-oriented issues find favor amid optimism for a global economic recovery from the pandemic.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 432.93 points, or 1.74 percent, from Tuesday to 25,338.52, marking its highest intraday level since June 5, 1991.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, climbed 22.85 points, or 1.34 percent, at 1,723.65.

Mining, insurance, and glass and ceramics product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
