TOKYO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Tuesday morning on concerns over the economic fallout from the government's abrupt planned suspension of its subsidized travel campaign over the year-end and New Year holiday period amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 83.61 points, or 0.31 percent, from Monday to 26,648.83.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 8.65 points, or 0.48 percent, at 1,781.87.
