Tokyo stocks retreated Friday in early trading as investor sentiment was dampened following declines on Wall Street overnight and prospects for the global economy. As of 09:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 189.85 points, or 0.96 percent, from Thursday to 19,507.92, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 12.38 points, or 0.78 percent, at 1,581.19. Early decliners comprised shipping, nonferrous metals and rubber products-related shares.
