TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday as the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar weighed on exporters, with investors eyeing earnings reports for the July to September period from domestic firms.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 61.00 points, or 0.26 percent, from Friday to close the day at 23,558.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.03 points, or 0.24 percent, to finish at 1,643.35.

Rubber product, warehousing and harbor transportation service, and marine transportation issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
