At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 75.39 U.S. cents, down from 75.56 U.S. cents on Monday.
"The U.S. dollar weakened against European currencies but was little changed against the rest of the G10," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.
"AUD/USD roundtripped from 75.35 U.S. cents to 75.78 U.S. cents, a fresh 2.5 year high, and back."
At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 75.32 U.S. cents.
