TOKYO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened mixed on Wednesday as buying on Wall Street's overnight lead was offset by selling on concerns over the extension of Japan's virus emergency to cover seven more prefectures.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 34.99 points, or 0.12 percent, from Tuesday to 28,199.33.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.17 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,855.77.

Mining and oil, and coal product issues led notable gainers, while precision instrument and pharmaceutical issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
