S.Korean small companies' export tops 100 bln USD

SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The accumulated export by South Korean small companies this year topped 100 billion U.S. dollars, breaking the previous yearly high, customs office data showed Tuesday.

The accumulated export by small and medium-sized enterprises surpassed the previous record high of 105.2 billion dollars, tallied in 2018, on Monday, according to Korea Customs Service.

The shipment stayed above 100 billion dollars in recent years, with 105.2 billion dollars in 2018, 100.9 billion dollars in 2019 and 100.7 billion dollars in 2020. The customs office began to compile relevant data since 2010.

The export by small businesses accounted for 18.2 percent of the total.

For the first 10 months of this year, the small firms' export amounted to 95.3 billion dollars. It was up 26.7 percent compared to 75.2 billion dollars in the same period of 2010.

The number of small export companies in the country was 87,019 in October this year, up 16.3 percent from 74,851 in October 2010.

The number of small businesses, which logged an export of over 10 million dollars, was 1,834 in October this year, up 33.1 percent from 1,378 in October 2010.

For the first 10 months of this year, cosmetics export by small firms amounted to 4.39 billion dollars. It soared from 320 million dollars tallied in the same period of 2010.

The shipment of semiconductor manufacturing equipment spiked from 880 million dollars to 3.30 billion dollars in the cited period, and the export for medicine and medical supplies increased from 670 million dollars to 2.82 billion dollars.

Export for processed food surged from 570 million dollars to 1.50 billion dollars in the same 10-month period, and the shipment of cars, including electric vehicles, went up from 1.27 billion dollars to 2.13 billion dollars.
