China will further improve urban public transportation during its 13th Five-year Plan period (2016-2020), extending the "public transportation in cities" initiative to 50 more cities, said Liu Xiaoming, an official of the Ministry of Transportation (MOT).
The initiative, launched in 2012 by the MOT, is aimed to improve infrastructure, operation and service of urban public transportation in China. The MOT will provide more support to cities participating in the initiative with regard to comprehensive passenger transportation hubs, public transportation informatization, and clean-energy buses, according to Zhang Dawei, an official of the MOT.
