China unveils five-year plan on upgrading quality of consumer goods

China has unveiled an five-year plan (2016-2020) on upgrading the standard and quality of consumer goods, according to a circular posted on www.gov.cn on September 12.

Based on the plan, four major targets have been fixed. Firstly, China would establish a basically optimized standard system for consumer goods, in which over 95 percent of the standards on major consumer goods of major categories are required to be consistent with international standards.

Secondly, general quality of consumer goods would achieve notable improvements, with the percent of pass in on-spot check maintaining over 90 percent.

Thirdly, enterprises would become self-motivated in improving product quality, optimizing management system, upgrading technological standards and strengthening marketing capabilities.

Fourthly, China would try to raise the brand value of famous consumer goods and cultivate more and more manufacturing enterprises with strong brand effects.

To achieve the targets, the plan requires enterprises to enhance brand construction, improve market environment, ensure safety, as well as elevate the quality of consumer goods for exports.

Consumer goods of major categories include household appliances, consumer electronic products, home decoration products, apparel, products for the babies, women, the elderly and disabled, stationery and sporting goods, traditional cultural products, food and so on.
