China is suggested to set a cap of 3.8 billion tonnes (or 2.72 billion tonnes of standard coal equivalent) of its total coal consumption in 2020, according to an energy research initiative on control of coal consumption.
The share of coal in energy consumption would reduce to 57.4 percent by then. Meanwhile, the share of natural gas and non-fossil energy would reach 10 percent and 15.2 percent, said in a research report published at a seminar, which was held on Wednesday to listen to advice for the country's 13th Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020).
The research program was started in October 2013 with the participation of National Resource Defense Council (NRDC), governmental think tanks, education institutes, industrial associations.
