First project invested by Silk Road Fund starts construction in Pakistan

The first project invested by Silk Road Fund went into construction, which is also the first hydropower project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, People's Daily reported on Friday.

The Karot Hydropower Station project on the Jhelum River in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, with China Three Gorges Corporation as the contractor, started construction on January 10. The project will not only provide over 2,000 jobs for local residents, but also promote development and upgrading of local electric power industry.

According to the report, many projects in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor including Port Qasim coal-fired power project, 50MW wind power project in Dawood, 100MW wind power project by United Energy Group Limited (00467.HK) have already come into operation, and a large number of projects will begin construction in 2016.
