Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met with visiting Chinese official Han Zheng here on Wednesday, saying that Thailand is willing to be part of the Belt and Road Initiative.

During a meeting with Han, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and party secretary of Shanghai, Prayut said Thailand is perfectly willing to join in the Belt and Road Initiative, and to extend pragmatic cooperation between China and Thailand, adding that Thailand highly cherishes the Chinese-Thai traditional friendship, and has attached great importance to the enhancement of bilateral cooperation.

China is an important force in keeping regional peace and stability and Thailand is glad to help China and ASEAN in enhancing their cooperation, Prayut added.

For his part, Han said that China and Thailand are good neighbors, good brothers and good partners, and China is willing to work with Thailand to further bolster the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries, as well as enhancing the China-ASEAN cooperation and contributing to regional peace and stability.

Han said the Chinese city Shanghai wants to play a bigger role in cooperation between the two countries. The CPC is willing to strengthen party-to-party exchanges with political parties in Thailand, said Han during his meeting with leaders from two major parties of Thailand, namely Democrat Party and Pheu Thai Party.

Han arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday. Besides meeting political leaders, he also attended the signing ceremony of sister-city agreement between Shanghai and Thai capital Bangkok.
