Chinese firm starts road project in New Hanover Island of Papua New Guinea

The commencement ceremony of the road reconstruction project on New Hanover Island of Papua New Guinea undertaken by China 19th Metallurgical Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC), was held in Hungat village on August 22, according to MCC's website.

With a total length of 50 kilometers, the project mainly involves re-paving, widening the pavement and related drainage works in a period of 12 months.

At present, the existing roads on New Hanover Island have been unable to meet the traveling needs of local people. After the completion of the project, transportation conditions for local people will be greatly improved and local economic development is expected to be promoted.
