China, Portugal continue pragmatic cooperation within framework of BRI

LISBON, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pragmatic cooperation between China and Portugal has continued in various fields within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Cai Run said here on Tuesday.

Cai made the remarks at an online reception marking the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

China and Portugal have helped each other in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and have made significant progress in bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, infrastructure, industry and technology, he said.

He added that China is willing to work with Portugal to promote greater development of bilateral ties in the new era to better benefit the two peoples and expedite the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

China's economy has showed a steady recovery trend through overcoming the adverse effects of the pandemic, the ambassador said.

The online event was attended by Portuguese officials including President of the Supreme Administrative Court of Portugal Dulce Neto, Senior Diplomatic Adviser to the President of Portugal Ana Martinho and Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Portugal Francisco Alegre Duarte, Portuguese celebrities from all walks of life, envoys of other countries in Portugal, representatives of international organizations and overseas Chinese in Portugal.

While watching the online celebration, some participants noted that China took the lead in preventing and controlling the pandemic and actively carried out international cooperation against the virus.

They also highlighted that China's economy is on its way to recover from the pandemic.
