Chinese authorities imposed a 123.3 million yuan fine on joint venture car maker Dongfeng Nissan following an anti-trust probe.

The fine was ordered by the development and reform commission of Guangdong province. In the meantime 17 dealers for the car maker in Guangdong's capital city Guangzhou were also given a combined fine of 19.12 million yuan. Chinese consumers normally buy cars from dealers authorized by auto makers.

According to the anti-trust investigators, Dongfeng Nissan strictly controlled quoted prices for its dealers in Guangdong between 2012 and 2014 and punished those who failed to comply with its price control policy in 2013.

The regulators ruled the company has violated the Chinese Anti-Monopoly Law by excluding or restraining market competition and thus damaging the rights and interests of consumers.

Dongfeng Nissan is a joint venture between Japanese automaker Nissan and its Chinese partner Dongfeng Motors Corporation.
