China's biggest automated wharf, the fourth phase of the Yangshan Port, will start trial operation in 2017, with completion of construction slated for the end of 2016, according to port operator Shanghai International Port Group Co., Ltd (SIPG: 600018.SH).

Construction of the wharf started at the end of 2014 and is estimated to cost 13.9 billion yuan. The highly-automated wharf will raise the efficiency of loading and unloading by at least 30 percent and reduce emissions by 50 percent, said Yan Jun, President of SIPG.
