Shijiazhuang Iron and Steel Company is expected to complete removal before the end of 2017 to form a capacity of producing 2 million metric tons (tonnes) of special steels annually, according to local government.
The first-phase construction project for the new plant will be completed in 2016. Meanwhile, the steel company will shut down its main plant in the urban area in 2016 to accelerate the removal.
Shijiazhuang, capital of north China's Hebei province, aims to cut 3.74 million tonnes of iron-making capacity and 4.82 million tonnes of steel-making capacity before the end of 2017, said local government.
