Volkswagen China will recall 78,083 vehicles due to design defects.
Starting from Jan. 25, the recall involves a range of models including Tiguan, Magotan and Golf produced between Jan. 22, 2009 to May 6, 2014, according to a statement from China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Due to design defects in the electric module of the steering column switch, the car horn and airbag restraint systems may not work normally in extreme cases and pose safety risks, according to the statement.
The carmaker offered to fix the module for free to eliminate the risks.
