Chinese tech company LeEco on Thursday opened its North American headquarters in San Jose to better serve the U.S. market.
The California facility is about 80,000 square feet (7,400 square km) and can support up to 800 employees. Located in the Silicon Valley, it serves as the research and development center in LeEco's global strategy.
The company aims to tap into the Silicon Valley's innovative technology and talent with focus on virtual reality hardware, car automation system as well as smart devices, said Changhong Xu, operational chief of the company's North American headquarters.
Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Luo Linquan said at the opening ceremony that LeEco's new headquarters is another example of win-win technology cooperation between the United States and China.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said that by locating its new headquarters in his city, LeEco will help to cement the city's role as a leading innovator and bring jobs to the region.
