SpaceX, the U.S. space exploration company led by Elon Musk, has raised another 100 million U.S. dollars in its latest fundraising round, bringing the total to nearly 450 million dollars, a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission showed Monday.

"This filing simply discloses that SpaceX received an additional 100 million dollars' investment as part of the last funding round which was disclosed earlier this summer," said a SpaceX spokesman.

SpaceX disclosed in August that it had raised about 350 million dollars in the previous month. The new follow-on funding puts SpaceX's total post-money valuation at about 21 billion dollars.

In May, SpaceX launched its first satellite for the U.S. military with its Falcon 9 rocket, breaking a monopoly held by a partnership of Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

Musk, who also heads electric car maker Tesla, has outlined plans for a trip to Mars in 2022.
