U.S. retail giant Walgreens will pay 2.25 million U.S. dollars to settle a lawsuit alleging that the company sold expired baby food, infant formula and over-the-counter drugs, local media reported Wednesday.

The persecutors include four counties in California: Santa Clara, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Cruz. They also alleged that Walgreens violated state law by charging more than the lowest posted or advertised price for items.

The Illinois-based company, which operates more than 600 stores in California, agreed to pay 2.25 million dollars to these counties, as part of the settlement.

"We remain committed to pricing accuracy and product quality, and will continue working with local authorities in California," a company spokesman said.
