FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co. Ltd. Monday saw its passenger car production for 2018 exceed 2 million units.

FAW-Volkswagen, a joint venture between FAW Group and Volkswagen Group, said a new-generation Magotan, the two millionth car for the year, rolled off production line Monday at its plant in Changchun, capital of Jilin Province.

FAW-Volkswagen took nine years to see its annual vehicle production reach 100,000 units, a further 11 years to increase its annual output to 1 million units and a further seven to increase its annual output to 2 million.

FAW-Volkswagen, set up in 1991 as Volkswagen's second joint venture in China, now has five manufacturing bases in China.

Volkswagen set up its China's first joint venture with SAIC Motor in Shanghai in 1985. It set up its third with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd. in Hefei, Anhui Province, in 2017, to focus on new energy vehicles.

The German carmaker announced plans in mid-November to team up with partners in 2019 to invest over 4 billion euros (4.6 billion U.S. dollars) in China, in frontier fields including mobility services, electric vehicles and fast charging networks.
