Technician of India's Jet Airways commits suicide

MUMBAI, April 28 (Xinhua) -- A 45-year old senior technician with the beleaguered Indian airline Jet Airways allegedly committed suicide in Palghar district of India's Western state of Maharashtra on Saturday, a police official said.

According to the Palghar Police, the deceased person, who was suffering from cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment, jumped from the fourth floor of his building in Nalasopara East of Palghar district. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead before admission.

As per the office-bearers of the Jet Airways staff association, the senior technician was facing "financial constraints" as employees of the grounded airline have not got salaries for several months.

The airline has not paid salaries for a section of its employees including pilots, engineers and general managers since January and to its entire pay-roll staff strength of over 16,000 employees since March.

The employees have been facing problem to repay the monthly installment of home loans, pay school fees of their children and manage their household expenditure.
