BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Cainiao Network Technology, Alibaba's logistics arm, aimed to bank on cutting-edge technologies for breakthroughs in logistics, China Daily reported Wednesday.

The courier aggregator will connect 100 million smart devices with partnering couriers to digitalize and accelerate the delivery process, Cainiao President Wan Lin was cited by the newspaper as saying.

Cainiao has pledged to create 50 billion yuan (7.25 billion U.S. dollars) in value for the country's logistics industry over the next three years, using technologies from the internet of things to artificial intelligence.

The company is also looking to offer 1 billion new shipments per year through Cainiao Guoguo, an app that can send and track parcels, Wan said.

Among about 50 billion parcels handled in China last year, some 30 billion used Cainiao's e-shipping label, saving energy and providing simultaneous tracking functions, Alibaba CEO Zhang Yong said.

The sector is moving from pure digitally driven to intelligence-driven, Zhang said, pointing to the possibility of using emerging gadgets to revolutionize the delivery process.
