The paper cited Nicholas Green, managing director of Toys R Us China, as saying that China will have 400 stores by 2021. Most of the new stores will be located in first-and second-tier cities. China will by then become the biggest market in Asia for Toys R Us, the report said.
Toys R Us entered the Chinese mainland market in 2006 and has been expanding its stores in recent years.
Chih-yuan Wang, retail research director of Mintel China, told the newspaper that despite a slow decline in global toy markets, China has seen stable growth over the past few years.
More wealthy parents and the effect of the second-child policy are behind the growth, according to the report.
