CHICAGO, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) said Tuesday it sold 206,083 vehicles in the U.S. market in June, up 2 percent from the same month last year, driven by Ram pickup trucks which had its highest month of sales since the brand was detached from Dodge in 2009.

FCA saw its U.S. sales through the first half of the year were down 2 percent despite the automaker reporting its best June sales results in more than a decade.

In FCA's monthly sales report, the Italian-American automaker said that its sales of Ram pickups for June rose 56 percent to 68,098 vehicles. For the quarter, Ram pickup truck sales finished at 179,454 vehicles.

Meantime, Jeep brand sales slowed both for the month and the first half of the year, down 12 percent in June and 8 percent year-to-date.

Despite that, Jeep sales accounted for nearly half of FCA's overall sales through the first six months of 2019. The automaker has sold 1.1 million vehicles so far this year, and Jeep sales clocked in a 456,281 through June.

"For the first-half of 2019, Ram has been on a tear since we made the strategic decision to enter the year with a three-truck strategy," Head of U.S. Sales Reid Bigland said. "This is now the third month Ram pickup sales have surpassed 60,000 since December. Our dealers had a steady stream of customers all month long."

Overall, June retail sales for FCA US hit the highest level in 18 years with 156,588 vehicles sold. Fleet sales totaled 49,495 vehicles in June and accounted for 24 percent of total sales.
