FAW's Hongqi-brand SUV rolls off production line

CHANGCHUN, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The first Hongqi-brand C-Class sport utility vehicle (SUV) of China's automaker FAW Group rolled off the production line on Wednesday in Changchun, capital city of northeast China's Jilin Province.

The SUV, Hongqi HS7, is equipped with a 3.0L V6 engine with mechanical supercharging. It will be officially launched to the market on Friday at the China Changchun International Automobile Expo.

The launch of Hongqi HS7 will bring the portfolio of Hongqi-brand vehicle to six, according to the company.

More than 33,000 Hongqi-brand vehicles were sold in the first half of 2019, up 255 percent year on year.

"We will release 17 new Hongqi models by 2025, including new energy vehicles and SUVs," said Xu Liuping, board chairman of FAW Group.

The first Hongqi model, or Red Flag, was made in 1958. Hongqi is one of China's iconic sedan brands and has been used as the vehicle for parades at national celebrations.

Established in 1953 in Changchun, FAW was the first automaker in China.
