India's Tata Motors launches technology to power electric cars

MUMBAI, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- India's automobile major, Tata Motors, has launched state-of-the-art electric vehicle technology, Ziptron, to power a range of aspirational electric cars, a company statement said late Thursday.

The technology embodies distinctive characteristics including efficient high voltage system, zippy performance, long range, fast charging capability, battery with warranty of 8 years, and adherence to IP67 standard, the statement said.

The company, with annual revenues of 45 billion U.S. dollars, is expected to launch electric car in Jan-March with this technology, the statement said.

Speaking at the launch, Guenter Butschek, CEO amd MD, Tata Motors, said "At the heart of our future EV line-up, this technology will deliver a thrilling driving experience to our customers aspiring to go-green. Rigorously tested across 1 million kms, Ziptron technology is well proven, advanced and reliable."

With this technology, we hope to usher in a new wave of eMobility in India and accelerate faster adoption of EVs, supporting the government's vision, he said.

The technology comprises of a highly efficient permanent magnet AC motor providing superior performance on demand and also offers best in industry dust and water proof battery system meeting IP67 standards.

It also utilizes smart regenerative braking to charge the battery while on the drive, the statement said.

In 2013, India has unveiled the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 to address the issues of National energy security, vehicular pollution and growth of domestic manufacturing capabilities with plans to make a major shift to electric vehicles by 2030.
