Future Retail in pact with Amazon to expand consumer reach

MUMBAI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) - India's Future Retail Limited (FRL) has entered into long-term agreement with Amazon's Indian subsidiary to expand the reach of its stores and consumer brands through the latter's marketplace, the two companies said in a joint statement on Monday.

As per the pact, Amazon, that operates e-commerce marketplace, will become the authorized online sales channel for FRL stores, which currently attracts over 350 million footfalls annually across its retail store network.

FRL, that serves millions of customers in over 400 Indian cities through more than 1,500 stores, will list on the Amazon Prime Now program, allowing customers to get food, grocery and general merchandise delivery within two hours in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, the statement said.

"This arrangement will allow us to build upon each other's strengths in the physical and digital space so that customers benefit from the best services, products, assortment and price," said Kishore Biyani, Chairman & Managing Director, Future Retail Limited, with annual revenues of 2.8 billion US dollars.
