KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia said it slipped into a net loss of 303.72 million ringgit (about 72.13 million U.S. dollars) for the financial year ended December 31, 2019, against a net profit of 1.97 billion ringgit in the previous year, due to the absence of gains recognized in 2018 amounting to 1.1 billion ringgit.
The budget carrier said in a statement on Thursday that its revenue rose 17 percent year on year to 12.45 billion ringgit in the year, driven by capacity addition and increase in revenue per available seat kilometre.
Its full year 2019 profit, however, was impacted by the recognition of one-off costs, which includes consultant costs for sales and leaseback transactions, tax provision and payment for a subsidiary, discounting of a long-term receivable and share of losses in AirAsia India.
The weaker performance was also attributed to accounting treatment of the restructured aircraft ownership, moving from owning to leasing aircraft.
