S. Korea's Hyundai Motor posts better-than-expected profit in Q1

SEOUL, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Hyundai Motor, South Korea's biggest automaker, posted a better-than-expected profit in the first quarter, a regulatory filing showed Thursday.

Operating profit grew 4.7 percent from a year earlier to 863.8 billion won (700.4 million U.S. dollars) in the January-March quarter. It beat market expectations of about 700 billion won (567.6 million U.S. dollars).

Revenue gained 5.6 percent to 25.3 trillion won (20.5 billion U.S. dollars) during the quarter, but net income tumbled 42.1 percent to 552.7 billion won (448.2 million U.S. dollars).
