COPENHAGEN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Lego, a Danish toymaker based in Billund in central Denmark, reported Wednesday a year-on-year sales increase of 7 percent to 15.7 billion Danish Kroner (2.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half (H1) of 2020.

Lego said in a press release that it saw a double-digit consumer sales increase in markets in North and South Americas, Western Europe and Asia. The sales increase raised the company's operating profit by 11 percent to 3.9 billion DKK.

According to the company, despite the impact of the coronavirus this year, Lego achieved a net profit of 2.634 billion DKK during the January-June period of this year, a slight decrease from last year's profit of 2.671 billion DKK in the same period

Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of Lego, attributed the company's profitable result to investments in strategic areas such as e-commerce during a time when the global coronavirus outbreak forced the closure of retail outlets around the world.

"Our strong product portfolio appeals to builders of all ages, and our updated e-commerce platform and agile, global supply chain enabled us to better meet demand online. We also worked closely with our partners in the retail trade to ensure that they could continue to supply their consumers online," said Christiansen in the press release.
