SAO PAULO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's aircraft manufacturer Embraer on Thursday announced a 4.5-percent reduction of its global workforce amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision will affect approximately 900 employees in Brazil, according to a statement by Embraer.
"The measure stems from the impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy and the cancellation of the company's partnership with Boeing," said the statement.
The pandemic particularly affected Embraer Commercial Aviation, which experienced a 75-percent reduction in aircraft deliveries during the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year, according to the statement.
The manufacturer said that the workforce adjustment aims to ensure its sustainability and engineering capacity.
