Samsung Electronics' revenue hits record high in Q1

SEOUL, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Samsung Electronics, South Korea's tech behemoth, recorded its highest revenue in the first quarter, the company said on Thursday.

Consolidated revenue advanced 19 percent from a year earlier to 77.78 trillion won (61.1 billion U.S. dollars) in the January-March quarter.

Samsung's revenue kept a record-breaking trend for the third consecutive quarter.

Operating profit jumped 50.5 percent to 14.12 trillion won (11.1 billion U.S. dollars), and net income picked up 58.6 percent to 11.32 trillion won (8.9 billion U.S. dollars).

The earnings surpassed market expectations of around 75 trillion won (58.9 billion U.S. dollars) for revenue and 13 trillion won (10.2 billion U.S. dollars) for operating profit.
