STOCKHOLM, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Volvo Cars unveiled a new electric model in Stockholm on Wednesday, marking the start of the company's move towards "a fully electric future."

The new Volvo EX90 is a seven-seater, all-electric SUV, which the company said further raises its safety standards. The model also boasts cutting-edge technology in core computing, connectivity and electrification to optimize safety, efficiency and aesthetics, Volvo said.

"The Volvo EX90 is a statement for where we are, and where we are going," said Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars' president and CEO.

With a range of up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, the EX90 is "designed to further raise our safety standards, the first Volvo car to be truly defined by its software and part of a wider ecosystem, connecting to your home and other devices."

The Volvo EX90 will be built in the United States of America from next year, and later also in China, the company said.

To embrace its electrification ambitions, Volvo will "reveal one new fully electric car each year." By 2030, it aims to sell only fully electric cars.

Acquired by Chinese automaker Geely in 2010, as of 2021 Volvo employed approximately 41,000 full-time staff.
