Its North America segment sales increased 11 percent year over year to 87.9 billion dollars. International segment sales increased 16 percent year over year to 32.1 billion dollars, or increased 11 percent excluding changes in foreign exchange rates. AWS segment sales increased 12 percent year over year to 23.1 billion dollars, the company said.
According to its financial report, Amazon's net income increased to 9.9 billion dollars in the third quarter, or 0.94 dollars per diluted share, compared with 2.9 billion dollars, or 0.28 dollars per diluted share a year ago.
The company's operating cash flow increased 81 percent to 71.7 billion dollars for the trailing 12 months, compared with 39.7 billion dollars for the trailing 12 months ending Sept. 30, 2022.
Free cash flow improved to an inflow of 21.4 billion dollars for the trailing 12 months, compared with an outflow of 19.7 billion dollars for the trailing 12 months ending Sept. 30, 2022.
"We had a strong third quarter as our cost to serve and speed of delivery in our Stores business took another step forward, our AWS growth continued to stabilize, our Advertising revenue grew robustly, and overall operating income and free cash flow rose significantly," said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
"The AWS team continues to innovate and deliver at a rapid clip, particularly in generative AI, where the combination of our custom AI chips, Amazon Bedrock being the easiest and most flexible way to build and deploy generative AI applications, and our coding companion," he added.
In the company's fourth-quarter guidance, net sales are expected to be between 160 billion and 167 billion dollars, or to grow between 7 percent and 12 percent, compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.
Operating income is expected to be between 7 billion and 11 billion dollars, compared with 2.7 billion dollars in the fourth quarter of 2022.
