The services sector in China expanded at its lowest pace in 17 months in December, according to results from the latest Caixin survey.

The Caixin China General Services PMI posted at 50.2 in December, the lowest reading since July 2014 and the second lowest since data collection began in November 2005, the survey showed on Wednesday.

He Fan, chief economist at Caixin Insight Group, said "in light of the setback to services sector growth, the government needs to gradually relax restrictions in the sector. This could release the potential of supply-side reform, improve the economic structure and help facilitate industrial transformation and upgrading".
