Business conditions for China's small and medium enterprises (SME) rebounded slightly in November after falling to a record low in October, according to China Small and Medium Enterprises Confidence Index (SMEI) developed by Standard Chartered.
The SMEI, a confidence index targeting SMEs, edged up to 55.3 in November from 55.0 in October, the lowest reading since 2014 when the index was launched.
The SMEI is based on results of questionnaires sent to nearly 600 SMEs across China. A reading above 50 shows expansion, while a reading below 50 suggests contraction.
